The Roeckl Julia is a winter riding glove with a ROECK-PROOF® Ural back of the hand and a laminated ROECK-GRIP® palm: the same grip material as in the ROECK-GRIP, here in a laminated version. Roeckl does not document properties such as windproofing for this item. At Maddelin in three colours — mocha, black and navy — and in sizes 6 to 8.5.
About these riding gloves
The Julia is built from two zones, each with its own job. The back of the hand is ROECK-PROOF® Ural, from the ROECK-PROOF® line that Roeckl uses for its cold-weather models. The palm is ROECK-GRIP® laminated: the same grip material as in the classic summer models, but applied on an extra layer instead of used on its own. Anyone who knows the ROECK-GRIP or the Malta will therefore find the same grip material in the Julia, in laminated form.
Both names are Roeckl material names, not compositions. Roeckl does not publish fibre percentages for any of its riding glove models; the composition is on the label inside the glove. What Roeckl does state for this item is the construction per zone. Whether there is a lining, and if so which type and how heavy, the manufacturer does not document for this item. No leather parts are stated either — relevant for care, because leather never goes in the washing machine.
With the Julia, check which item you have in your hands. Roeckl now has a successor in its collection with a different back of the hand; the details here belong to item 01-302500, the model Maddelin carries. The specifications of the successor therefore do not apply to it.
Maddelin carries the Julia in three colours and six sizes, from 6 to 8.5. That choice of colour is more than a matter of taste. In dressage, gloves are compulsory, internationally in white, off-white or the colour of your jacket, and Paardensport Vlaanderen requires white, buff or the colour of the jacket. Black and navy therefore go with a black or dark blue jacket; mocha is a brown shade and only fits there with a jacket of that same colour. For training, showjumping, hacking and yard work no colour requirement applies, and any of the three colours can be used there.
On fit: a riding glove should fit closely. Roeckl itself writes that its riding gloves should fit like a second skin, because holding the rein requires sensitivity of touch. That also applies to a winter model: so do not deliberately take a size up because it is winter.
There are no model-specific care instructions. Roeckl's brand-wide guideline is a delicate cycle or 30 °C, no fabric softener, no tumble dryer and dry flat at room temperature. Two points go against intuition: if your pair has a hook-and-loop fastening, close it neatly first, and do not turn the glove inside out — according to Roeckl, least of all a lined glove.
