The BR CLX XO2 are tendon boots for the front legs with a ventilated plastic shell and the Air Liner lining from BR. It is the same XO2 boot that BR developed itself, finished in the colours of the CLX line. A choice for riders who train or jump daily and want their leg protection to tie in with the rest of their kit.
About these tendon boots
At BR, CLX is a colour line, not a separate construction. The CLX XO2 is the XO2 boot from BR, finished in the CLX colours. Those colours run through BR's whole collection, from shirts and riding leggings to socks, so you can match your leg protection with the rest. We stock this boot in black and Carbernet, in sizes Full and Cob.
The shell comes from a mould BR developed itself and follows the shape of the horse's leg. It is hard enough to take a knock and flexible at the same time, so that it shapes itself around the leg. At the back and at the sides of the fetlock the shell is a little thicker; where no shell is needed, BR leaves material out. That is why the boot weighs around ten per cent less than an average tendon boot, according to BR. There are ventilation holes in the shell.
On the inside sits the Air Liner: a thermally moulded lining with air chambers in the material. On impact, that air is pressed out, through the lining and out through the ventilation holes. That is what makes the lining cushioning, and it also means heat and moisture can escape from under the boot instead of staying there. The composition BR states is 100% polyurethane for the outside and 100% polychloroprene, neoprene, as the second material.
This boot does not close with hook-and-loop, but with lightly elastic straps with a hook-and-eye fastening. That lets you set it on the same position every time, and the straps follow the curve of the shell, so nothing sticks out. BR does not state how many fastenings there are per boot.
Weigh up what a closed shell like this does not do, as well. It lies over the tendon and takes what comes against it: a hind hoof striking in, a brushing hoof, a pole. Against that, a hard shell holds in more heat than an open bandage, ventilation holes or not. A tendon boot belongs on the front legs; for the hind legs you need fetlock boots. And in the international dressage arena boots are forbidden: they have to come off before you ride into the space around the competition arena.
